Mark Ochenduszko to Serve in Interim Capacity

CORONADO, CA (April 8, 2021) The City Council has appointed Mark Ochenduszko to fill in as interim city manager until a permanent replacement is found for Blair King.

King recently announced his resignation. His last day is April 29. Ochenduszko will start work May 3. The Council also authorized at its April 6 meeting an agreement with a professional recruitment firm to begin work to find a new city manager. The task may take up to five months.

Ochenduszko served as Coronado’s city manager from 1999 until his retirement in 2010. Most recently, he served in interim positions for several entities, including as the interim city manager for the City of Del Mar and interim executive director for two joint-powers agencies. The proposed terms of the employment agreement provide that the appointment be limited to May 1 to November 1, 2021 at a rate of $123 per hour with no benefits or incentives.

“Mark will make a great interim city manager while the search for a permanent city manager is underway,” King said. “His recent experience in interim positions for a range of agencies and his knowledge of municipal management will be key while the City transitions.”

After nearly 11 years as Coronado’s city manager, King accepted the city manager position in Bainbridge Island, Washington.
