Active Transportation

Why Active Transportation?

"Active Transportation" refers to any human-powered transportation, such as walking, bicycling, or using a wheelchair.  Ensuring that safe and convenient opportunities exist for these forms of travel helps expand access to transportation networks for people without cars, and even helps people using cars or transit reach their destinations safely.  Providing safe transportation facilities for everyone ensures equal access to mobility and grows healthy communities.

Active Transportation Plan

After extensive research, development, and community input, the City of Coronado Active Transportation Plan has been adopted by City Council. The Active Transportation Plan is a strategic document which includes a Pedestrian Master Plan, a Safe Routes to School Plan, and a Bicycle Master Plan. In the Plan, infrastructure projects and education, encouragement, and monitoring programs are recommended for further development over the upcoming years at Council's discretion.

The City will begin the process of identifying and implementing the projects listed in the Active Transportation Plan. For more information about this process, please contact Howard Lee at (619) 522-2423 or

Coronado Bike Month 2020

May is Bike Month in Coronado and, although we are in the midst of a public health emergency, we can all thankfully still ride our bikes.

But how is the City hosting Bike Month this year? Check out how by clicking on the images or the link below.

It’s spring and that means the weather is perfect for getting outside. With the proper social distancing measures in place and keeping in mind that riding alone is best, new and seasoned bike riders can hit the streets.
